Giclée Prints
Giclée prints are high quality on-demand reproductions
made from original art or photographs printed on a variety of media
including canvas,
photographic paper, and art paper. They are becoming the new standard
in the art industry, and is widely embraced by major museums, galleries,
publishers, artists,
and photographers for its exceptional
quality,
longevity,
and flexibility of printing-on-demand.
The Giclée
(jee-clay), a French word meaning “to spray or
to squirt ink”, process
was developed in the late 1980's as a digital method of fine
art
printing and reproduction. Sometimes
referred to as an “Iris Print” (after the original machine
that produced the print), giclée printing is the latest ground-breaking
technological advancement of Fine Art Printing with a resolution
much higher than
traditional 4-color offset or lithography printing, and a wider
color range than
a serigraph.
With over 10 years of experience in color reproduction
techniques and wide format printing, our images and prints carry all
the magic of the original with the highest degree of color accuracy,
exceptional clarity, fine detail and sharpness.
Using the latest color inkjet technology, your prints
will have crisp contrast and rich intense colors with extremely fine
resolution that has no perceptible dot pattern. Our prints are simply
the closest duplication of an original artwork or digital image that
is humanly, mechanically, or technically possible.
Preparation and Printing Process
Large format professional ink-jet printers spray billions of microscopic
droplets of ink per second capable of producing a single
droplet as small as 4 picoliters to create a beautiful, almost
continuous
tone reproduction.
The result is an image as close to the original
as possible. The resulting print has no coarse dot pattern,
just richly saturated
colors with every detail of the original image. Revolutionary
super penetrating inks are engineered to deliver
incredible print
quality and color
brilliance.
The artwork is either captured in studio or scanned
from an original at high resolution. The image is then adjusted to
reach the most accurate representation of the original art.
With a printing resolution of 2880, 8.3 million
dots per square inch (an 8x10 image has 664 million droplets) and
the detail and color
vibrancy exceeds
traditional printmaking technologies. Once file preparation
is complete, a proof is provided. After approval, Giclée
prints are printed within 3 working days (usually 24 hour turn around).
The digital image is then archived and stored at no
charge, the artist has the advantage of printing additional copies
on-demand,
incurring
only the printing cost.
Advantages
Giclée produced prints are completely faithful to the artist’s
original and have the look and feel of original
art. The latest inks used are very stable, giving fade and color
shift resistance, and UV-resistance up to 70-150 years
under museum archival condition, and 70 years under average indoor
light
conditions.
Additionally, Giclées offer the collector the
same physical properties of an original painting at a fraction of
the price.
Giclée
prints are advantageous to artists who do not find
it feasible to mass produce their
work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or
on-demand.
Additionally, archived files will not deteriorate in
quality as negatives and films do, so digital images can be reproduced
to almost
any size
( depending on originally chosen scan resolution)
and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize
prints for a specific client.
Another tremendous
advantage of Giclée printing
is that an artist or a photographer may have several
galleries represent the same art and
have the same image displayed at an art festival
or special event to gain maximum exposure.
