Setting
Up QuarkXPress with Acrobat Distiller
Please note that there are a few minor difference in
setting up Acrobat Distiller options from operating
system to operating system
and versions; however, the directions below should provide what you
need to make the correct configuration
.
Step
1
Make sure you have the most current print driver and printer description installed.
Check online with the printer manufacturer
Step
2
Open Acrobat Distiller and set the Job Option menu to the approprate
option.
For injet prints, the "Print" option or "High Quality"
setting is the best choice. If you are not sure, set it to "No Downsampling"
The image below is from Version 4 thru 5
The following images are from Version 6

In version 6, you can also turn downsampling off by
going to the Settings Menu > Edit Abobe PDF Settings. Then select
the Image Menu. You should see the window below. For 720 dpi Inkjet
prints, it's generally safe to set the Sampling menu to > Average
Downsampling to > 150 to 300 pixels per
inch (ppi). However, for Giclée prints, do not downsample.

Step
3
Acrobat requires you tell it were your fonts are stored.
If you don't do this or don't select all the locations of the fonts
used by your QuarkXPress document, you will experince an error. Set
the fonts menu.
Go to Settings > Font Locations

Step
4
Select
all the locations of Font folders on your system.
Such as:
- System
Folder > Fonts
- Library > Fonts
- User > Library > Fonts
- Work:
Fonts All
If
additional Font Locations need to be added, click "Add" to upload Locations.
Then, click "OK" to proceed. If no additional Font Locations
are necessary, you can simply click "Cancel" to proceed.

.
Step
5
Quit Distiller
and go to QuarkXPress.
