Please note that converting a pdf in Ilustrator 8, 9, 10, and CS are basically identical.
Step 1 Open your Illustrator document and create crop marks. If you do not create these crop marks all items within and on the out side of your art board will appear in your pdf. The corner befor crop marks.
Go to the Object menu > Crop Area > Make
The crop marks will appear on the 4 corners of your document.
Step 2 Once you created crop marks then go to the File menu/ Save As... Once the window opens, change the format menu, near the bottom, to read as follows. Press save.
Change the Format menu to Adobe PDF (PDF). After you press the Save button a new window will open. Select these options.
Step 3 Change the Compression settings to, Go Not Downsample. This will give your file the highest possible resolution.
Once these settings are made, press the Save as PDF button.
